March General Meeting


Attendees:  Cathie Bortz, Lindey Bortz, Bonnie Buhl, Norma Chiaramonte, Joe and Wendy D’Virgilio, Liz Hearn, Ellen and Mark Jones, David and Marsha Mausolf, Mike Owens, Ann Sansbury

Program
§       Program Host, Refreshments and Door Prize- Norma Chiaramonte Lindey Bortz also made delicious chocolate chip cookies for all to enjoy.  The door prize was awarded to Joe D’Virgilio
§       
      Welcome speaker:   Fred Billings, Buds and Blossoms provided an informational and interactive discussion on Mulching, Pruning and Landscape Design.  Buds and Blossoms also provided beautiful geraniums to raffle. Winners were, Lindey Bortz, Mark Jones, Marcia Mausolf and Lindey Bortz    Buds and Blossoms is located at 14120 Cypress North Houston Road and offers a full range of products and services.

Meeting Agenda
§        January 14, 2019 Meeting Minutes – a motion was made by Norma Chiaramonte and seconded by Marcia Mausolf to dispense of reading of the minutes

§        Treasurer Report was given by Bonnie Buhl and was approved by all

§        Tax exemption status – There is an issue with our EIN Number that does not reflect our tax-exempt     status.  Bonnie is going to work with officers in the TX Garden Club Federation to resolve

§       Nomination and Election of Officers:  President and Secretary/Treasurer – Nomination Committee Larry Allen, Debbie Haluch and Mike Owens – Nomination Committee has requested to defer election until April 8, 2019

§        Monument stone for the Butterfly Garden on Brazos stage was given by Mark Jones.  Two options of stone were presented.  One was a Limestone and the second was a Western Swirl.  There was a unanimous vote to go with the Western Swirl.  The cost and agreement to purchase was also approved unanimously.

§       Junior Gardening Event – Saturday May 4 – Highlights of the Planning Meeting held on February 27 at the home of Liz Hearn include:  POA Section 1 & 2 continues to support our community program and have made a generous donation.  IMS Landscaping has extended continued support by donating the plants for the event.  Peggy Owens has created one of a kind “pot stickers” for the children to choose to adorn their plants.  Liz Hearn and Lyn McWilliam are chairwomen for the event.

§      Yard of the Month - New signs ordered by Larry Allen and Kara Roberts is the new Chairwoman for YOM.  Mike Owens made a recommendation to consider Seasonal Awards versus Monthly Awards.  This was discussed and decided to be an excellent idea.  A proposal on details of “Seasons” for awards to be given and number of awards in each section (North or South of Cypress North Houston) will be presented at the April meeting.

§       Ellen provided an update on the Federation Garden Club Meeting for Friday, April 11, 2010 – Zone 7, which includes CCLGC.  Our club is responsible for a refreshment donation for the meeting.  Ellen and Bonnie plan to attend and provide a refreshment on behalf of the CCLGC.  Ellen also offered to car pool with those who would like to go.

­   Program Topic – Share Table.  Each member is asked to bring a gardening topic to discuss and share.  Examples: a unique plant (indoor or outdoor), a gardening problem you have resolved or need help in solving, landscape design, etc. 
­   Door Prize and Refreshments – Ian McWilliam
­   Installation of new officers


§       Bonnie Buhl gave the Gardening Tips for March:  A few tips to get the most impact from your color beds:
­   When planting beds that will be viewed at a distance, choose large swaths of color for the greatest impact.
­   Mixtures of many colors are interesting when viewed up close, but as you move away, they tend to blend into one another.  A riot of color around the patio or along the walkway can be very effective.
§     The Meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm
