Butterfly Gardens clean up after freeze

We waited a few weeks after the freeze before cleaning up the butterfly gardens.  It was an opportunity to see what plants were coming back.

• Fennel
• Rue

Special thank you to Ann, Ian, Mike, Mark, Ellen. Dale, Lyn and Norma for getting the beds ready for planting.  This will happen April 24th.

 

Cypress Creek Lakes Garden Club announces:

            A Contest to name our 2 Butterfly Gardens!

Garden A, 11810 Cypress Creek Lakes Drive (Site of the Quarantine Caterpillar)

 

Garden B, 20441 Brazos Sage Drive

Prizes are a $100 Arbor Gate or Plants for All Seasons gift certificate to the person with the winning name for each garden.

Naming guidelines:

1)      Visit each garden for name inspiration

2)      A name is to be short, simple, creative & 3 words or less.

3)      Not a person’s name because we offer bricks for honorariums or memorials for that purpose.

4)      Nominations are due 04/15/2021 to CCLGC1@gmail.com. The 2 winners will be selected by the committee.

5)      The Contest is open to Cypress Creek Lakes Residents, only, and they may nominate one name per park.

6)      Submissions should include the park A or B name, the name of the person making the nomination, email address and phone number.

7)      Winners will be announced at 11 am on 05/01/2021, at the Plant Giveaway/Exchange, at the Community Center, 10702 Cypress Creek Bend Lane.

March General Meeting

 

The March meeting was by Zoom.

 Attendees: Larry and Beverly Allen, Bonnie Buhl, Norma Chiaramonte, Tessa Ellis, Debbie Haluch, Ellen and Mark Jones, Jeff and Gwen Klorer, Marsha and Dave Mausolf, Ian McWilliam, Cathy Oland, Mike Owens, Louise Rugaard, Ann Sansbury, Dale Smothers, Tracy Walker and Ruth Westra.

 Speaker: Helen Lombardo, our Honorary Life Member, spoke on yearly maintenance of garden beds, trees and grass and how to recover from the ice storm.

Minutes –  January 11 Meeting Minutes –we dispensed with reading of the minutes. Motion was made by Norma Chiaramonte and seconded by Larry Allen.

 Treasurer’s Report - Treasurer Report was given by Secretary/Treasurer, Ann Sansbury and approved by all.

 Birthdays – Cathie Oland and Debbie Haluch.

·       Debbie gave a review of local nurseries.

·       Louise went over the guidelines for the Garden Naming Contest. It begins March 15 and ends on April 15. It is open to Cypress Creek Lakes residents only. Each person can submit only one name per garden. The winners will be announced May 1 at 11:00.

We will award two $100 gift certificates, one for each garden. 

They will be from Arborgate and Plants for All Seasons.

Announcements will be on Facebook and Next Door

·       Clean up of the gardens will be 9:00 on March 20.

·       Yard of the Season will resume for the summer season.

·       The May 10 meeting will be in person at the Community Center.

 Tips:

• ·       If you have anything that is mushy, go ahead and clean it up to prevent bacteria.
• ·       Cut plants back until you see green.
